Communities of Faith- Long Tower Reaches Rome

24th Apr 2024
The efforts of Long Tower pupils managed to reach Rome this week after pupils completed work based on Sister Clare Crockett, writing and recording a new hymn to celebrate her life.

On Friday, the school was contacted by Gino Salfes, who helped found an ecumenical community in Rome at the end of the 1990s, inspired by the life of Father Bede Griffiths. The community of around 650 are devoted to the life of Sister Clare and Gino requested a copy of music and lyrics for 'A Dream of the Lord'. The community in Rome will join together to record this song in English and translate the hymn into Italian.

Gino shared a beautiful prayer written for the people of Derry, pupils of Long Tower and for the life of Sister Clare.

Beloved Father, Supreme God,
We glorify You for having given the world Sister Clare,
To whom You entrusted an important project in the few years of her life on this earth.
And in Heaven You destined her for much greater projects.
We pray to You: bless Derry and its people;
May a shower of blessings descend upon this community which has been blessed by You in having such an honorable daughter.
Lord, wrap the children of Long Tower Primary School under your cloak of protection,
Since childhood they grow up loving Sister Clare.
We ask you in the name of Jesus, your Son and our Lord,
Through the intercession of Sister Clare, of the saints and blessed, of the angels and of all Heaven.
Amen.
